Ahead of its summer debut, early reviews are beginning to roll in for Another Simple Favor after kicking off SXSW. As the reviews begin to pop up, it’s garnered a fairly positive reception.
Another Simple Favor sees Anna Kendrick’s Stephanie approached by Blake Lively’s Emily to be the maid of honor at her wedding. Stephanie reluctantly accepts but doesn’t know who to trust as the whole wedding turns out to be not as it seems.
Hollywood Reporter, who also shared a plethora of reviews, noted that Paul Feig returns as director after helming the first film in 2018. Feig is once again serving as a writer on the film, similar to his role when producing the first film.
As the reactions begin to pop up, many are saying that Another Simple Favor delivers elements of similar quality to the first, but some found it to be lacking in certain areas.
Matt Neglia took to X to say that much of what was there in the first movie was amplified, but resulted in it being an “overly elaborate sequel.” Jeff Zhang, also on X, called the film “a pretty disappointing opener” to the annual festivities.
Despite this, many others are saying that they enjoyed this as much as the first, with some even saying they enjoyed the sequel more. However, one aspect across many of the reviews that is consistent is the complementing of Lively and Kendrick’s performances, specifically commenting on their on-screen chemistry.
