Dylan O’Brien, known recently for the indie dramedy Twinless and the Sam Raimi-helmed survival thriller Send Help, is set to star alongside Heated Rivalry star Hudson Williams in the upcoming thriller Apparatus, which is set to be the feature directorial debut of Canadian filmmaker Sofia Banzhaf. Written by Banzhaf and Grayson Moore, the story will follow a struggling rideshare driver (O’Brien) desperate to make ends meet. His life takes a dark turn when he becomes entangled in a scheme involving a charismatic young entrepreneur (Williams) and his handheld-massager business, which triggers a violent downward spiral.
The project is produced by Banzhaf and Moore alongside Julie Baldassi through Younger Daughter films, Daniel Bekerman through Scythia Films, and Brian Robertson. Financing is a collaborative effort between Sam Sutcliffe and Jasmin Karibzhanova through Ursa Major Films, Nicholas Chepesiuk through Gabardine, Telefilm Canada, and Mongrel Media.
Dylan O’Brien has been active in the indie movie scene for quite a while now, culminating in his Best Dramatic Actor win during Twinless’s premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. As for Hudson Williams, this would be a leap forward for him after his breakout role in the TV series Heated Rivalry.
Filming locations and dates on Apparatus are still being finalized.
