Dwayne Johnson Won’t Be Returning for 10th Installment of ‘Fast & Furious’

Dwayne Johnson started with the Fast and Furious franchise back in 2011 when Johnson started his role as Luke Hobbs who attempted to track down Dominic (Vin Diesel) and his crew for the deaths of three DEA agents in the franchise 5th movie Fast Five. Fans got to see Johnson’s and Diesel’s epic ramble in the Fast Five film that made over 626 million. Johnson would continue to play alongside Vin Diesel’s character as Luke Hobbs. In 2019, he appeared in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. The film grossed 760 million in the box office that summer, but it would also be Johnson’s last performance as Luke Hobbs.

Diesel has repeatedly tried to get Johnson to return as Luke Hobbs for the 10th installment of the Fast & Furious franchise. But Johnson continues to turn his former costar down. In his interview with IndieWire, the actor stated, “I told [Diesel] directly that I would not be returning to the franchise. I was firm yet cordial with my words and said that I would always be supportive of the cast and always root for the franchise to be successful, but that there was no chance I would return. Vin’s recent public post was an example of his manipulation. I didn’t like that brought up his children in the post, as well as Paul Walker’s death. Leave them out of it. We had spoken months ago about this came to a clear understanding.”

Johnson will soon appear in the DC’s League of Super-Pets as Krypto, the beloved canine companion to Superman. He will also be in additional DC movies such as Black Adam, a spin-off from the 2019 film Shazam! But fans should not expect to see the actor return Luke Hobbs in the Fast & Furious, as he’s made it clear that he will not return to the worldwide franchise.

Johnson’s last comment in his interview with IndieWire said, “My goal all along was to end my amazing journey with this incredible franchise with gratitude and grace. It’s unfortunate that this public dialogue has muddied the waters. Regardless, I’m confident in the Fast universe and its ability to consistently deliver for the audience…I truly wish my former co-star and crew members the best of luck and success in the next chapter.”
