Drew Barrymore is looking to scare up an audience with her newest project, the upcoming horror/thriller Animal and Keke Palmer, best known for her role in 2012’s Joyful Noise, is set to star.
The film has a familiar storyline, following a group of friends as they plan a weekend getaway and end up in an isolated cabin. They are then terrorized by a predatory maniac. As it goes with these types of films, tensions rise with the body count, relationships are tested, and the group must work out their differences in order to survive the attacks.
Although Barrymore is no stranger to directing, she will be handing over this flick to Brett Simmons to helm, who already has some horror/thriller experience under his belt having directed his own screenplay, Husk, in 2011. Husk follows yet another group of friends that stumble into unfamiliar territory, only that time it was a farmhouse filled with eerie supernatural rituals instead of a cabin threatened by a psycho. The script for Animal was penned by Thommy Hutson and Catherine Trillo who had previously worked together on the 2008 horror Prank. Palmer will be joined by rapper Eve, Amaury Nolasco (Prison Break), Jeremy Sumpter (Friday Night Lights), Joey Lauren Adams (Chasing Amy), Parker Young (Suburgatory), Elizabeth Gillies (Victorious), Paul Iacono (Fame), and Thorsten Kaye (All My Children).
Animal is currently shooting in Connecticut and is aiming for a limited release in 2014.
