The DreamWorks animated movie Trolls was a surprise hit at the box office in 2016. It seemed likely that a sequel was on the horizon and, in April of 2020, the Trolls are back. The first trailer for Trolls World Tour showcases the return of the original film’s cutesy characters alongside an expansion upon the world of Trolls.
The trailer starts out with Poppy singing Simon and Garfunkel’s The Sound of Silence, until she is shortly interrupted by an unexpected force. A Punk looking Troll comes in playing Black Sabbath’s Crazy Train on guitar, setting her up as Poppy’s rival. Then we get some explanation of the film’s plot, with the head troll explaining that there are six strings representing six different types of music: Pop, Funk, Classical, Techno, Country and Rock.
During this, we see glimpses of the musical worlds and their troll inhabitants. The Punk Troll then explains that she seeks to gather all of the strings and make it so Rock is the only one that exists. Now it’s up to Poppy and the other trolls to stop the Punk Rock Troll and save music all together. The rest of the trailer showcases these trolls visiting the various worlds with many hijinks and musical numbers ensuing, all set to the Scorpion’s Rock You Like A Hurricane.
This first trailer for Trolls World Tour seems like a good expansion upon the original film. It still retains the original’s cutesy pop nature while adding a little more variety in terms of world building. Dreamworks is certainly expecting to have another modest hit with this one for the beginning of 2020.
Trolls World Tour is set for release April 17th 2020. Watch the Full Trailer Below.
