As reported exclusively by Variety today, Australian actress Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies) is in negotiations to play the female lead in a reboot of the 1991 Keanu Reeves movie, which is currently in pre-production. If the deal happens, Palmer would join a cast that already includes Luke Bracey (G.I. Joe: Retaliation), Edgar Ramirez (Zero Dark Thirty) , and Ray Winstone (Noah).
Palmer would be playing Tyler, the love interest of Bracey’s character, a role originally played by Lori Petty. Bracey of course is playing FBI agent and former football player Johnny Utah, the role made famous – or infamous, depending on who you ask – by Keanu Reeves. And though Gerard Butler was originally cast in the Patrick Swayze role of Bodhi, he was recently replaced by Ramirez due to scheduling conflicts. Kurt Wimmer (Law Abiding Citizen) wrote the script, and Ericson Core (Invincible) will direct.
The talented Palmer first appeared in the low-budget Australian horror movie Wolf Creek, and has since taken on a number of smaller roles in movies like The Grudge 2, December Boys, and Warm Bodies. The romantic lead in this reboot of Point Break, which has the potential to spawn sequels, would mark the biggest role of her career to date. Warner Bros. plans on releasing the movie on August 7th, 2015.
