As StudioCanal and Heyday Films announce that the Paddington films will be receiving a third installment, entitled Paddington in Peru, they’ve also released that famed franchise director Paul King will not be returning.
Dougal Wilson will be stepping in to direct, as King’s hands are full at the moment as he works on Wonka starring Timothée Chalamet, the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory prequel.
Though seeing the project through from a writing and producing role King says he feels “absurdly protective of the little bear” and that he’s confident that Wilson “will be there to hold his paw” and look after the characters in this new film.
Wilson also had a few words to say, noting his admiration for the previous movies and that he will focus his energy into creating a film that “honors the love so many people have for this very special bear.”
This will be Dougal Wilson’s first time directing a feature Hollywood film. His work has previously taken place in the commercial realm for companies like Apple and Ikea, while his other work has received awards such as the Film Grand Prix at Cannes and even a Grammy nomination.
Paddington in Peru will film in both London and Peru starting in 2023.
