Rumors have been circulating about the return of Marvel’s superhero, Doctor Strange, to the big screen. Played by Benedict Cumberbatch, Doctor Strange was last seen in Disney-Marvel’s sequel film, Doctor Strange and the Multi-Verse of Madness released in 2022. Since then there have been nine Marvel Cinematic Universe films released, and three more planned for release, yet Doctor Strange 3 is nowhere on the timeline. Though the character is set to appear in Marvel’s upcoming ensemble film, Avengers: Doomsday. Cumberbatch revealed the news of Doctor Strange’s return in an interview with Business Insider, saying,
“…I am in the next one.”
Cumberbatch stated to Variety that
“He’s quite central to where things might go.”
This is promising for fans of the Marvel character. Doctor Strange has been a box office success, with his recent film bringing in $955M world-wide. That’s a significant jump from the $677M its predecessor made. Audiences seem to want more of Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme, and they are going to get it.
Not only will Doctor Strange appear in Doomsday, which is slated for release December 18, 2026, Cumberbatch will also reprise the role in the follow-up film, Avengers: Secret Wars, slated to be released the following year.
