Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness opened with a whopping $90 million by Friday according to Box Office Mojo. The sequel is projected to make $198.8-200 million by the end of its opening weekend, making it one of the ten best stateside debuts of all-time and Disney’s best during the pandemic.. Naturally, fans have already bought a massive $65 million in pre-sale tickets in anticipation of what unreal adventures the Sorcerer Supreme will take them on this time.
Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen are carrying the weight of the Disney / Marvel franchise on their shoulders now, and expectations couldn’t be higher. Excitement among the Marvel fan base has been growing over the Doctor Strange sequel ever since No Way Home opened up the door to limitless possibilities. With the parting of the original Avengers cast, it is now up to the new team of wizards, witches, nordic gods, and other fantastic beings to keep fans in their seats and entertained.
The film is set directly after the reality-shattering incidents of No Way Home, and the good doctor is going to have to answer to the powers that be for his crimes against the multiverse. The trailers have thus far given a glimpse of all the antagonists, the Scarlet Witch, The Illuminati, and possibly Ms. Marvel or an Iron Man from a different universe. Fans will have to go down to the theaters and get their tickets and see it for themselves unless they’ve already bought them in pre-sale, of course.
