After losing the director of its previous two films, the Divergent series has found new one in Lee Toland Krieger (Age of Adaline), according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The departure of Robert Schwentke, director of Insurgent and the upcoming Allegiant, wasn’t on bad terms with Lionsgate, however. He simply decided he needed a break in order to spend more time with his family in Los Angeles.
The film series, based on the YA dystopian novels by Veronica Roth, stars Shailene Woodley (The Fault In Our Stars), Miles Teller (Whiplash), Theo James (Golden Boy), and Ansel Elgort (The Fault In Our Stars).
Up to now, Krieger has built much of his directorial career on small indies like Celeste and Jesse Forever starring Andy Samberg (TV’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and Rashida Jones (TV’s Parks and Recreation) and The Vicious Kind starring Adam Scott (Krampus). Ascendent will surely be a creative turn for the director and it will be interesting to see his unique approach.
With the third film opening March 18, following the film-a-year trend, the fourth film, Ascendant, is still set to be released on June 9, 2017 despite its change in directors.
