Disney’s Prince Charming To Get His Own Feature Film

Disney is developing a new movie centered around Prince Charming, the iconic character who has long played the romantic lead in many classic fairy tales. The film will be directed by Paul King, the filmmaker known for his work on the Paddington series and the recent Wonka movie. While details about the plot remain under wraps, the project is stirring excitement among fans of Disney’s fairy tale universe.

Paul King, along with Simon Barnaby and Jon Croker, is co-writing the screenplay. It is yet to be confirmed whether the movie will be live-action or animated. Traditionally, Prince Charming is depicted as the hero who rescues princesses in stories like Cinderella, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. However, in those tales, he often plays a secondary role, with the focus on the princess. According to Deadline, this new project is not specifically tied to Cinderella’s storyline, and it seems Disney is aiming to give the prince a fresh narrative of his own.

Paul King’s involvement in the project is promising, given his recent successes. His film Wonka, an origin story about the famous chocolatier, grossed $218 million in the U.S. and an impressive $634 million worldwide. This followed his acclaimed work on Paddington and its sequel, which together earned $615 million globally. Although King won’t be directing the next Paddington film, Paddington in Peru, he contributed to its story, ensuring his creative fingerprints are still part of the beloved bear’s adventures.

Fans of King’s past work and Disney enthusiasts alike are curious to see how he’ll approach a character like Prince Charming, who has long been in the shadow of the princesses he’s saved.
