After much anticipation and advertisement Marvel’s new line of superheroes, Eternals is coming out this Friday in theaters. The Walt Disney Company expects the film to have a grant box office opening weekend of $75 million.
Expectations are set high for the intergalactic team of Eternals as Disney anticipates to make bank on their debut weekend. This year’s domestic box office record holder is also a new and aspiring Marvel hero, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The film did astoundingly well for a superhero that had no previous storyline or connection to the earlier MCU installments. It will be hard to reach the mountainous $220 million set by the master of Kung-Fu. Even though Venom: Let There Be Carnage is not a Marvel/Disney production, it still managed to generate a whopping $90 million on its premiere weekend alone, making it the highest domestic debut for a movie in 2021. If Disney’s projections are to be trusted, Eternals should be closer to the range of Black Widow‘s opening weekend that had generated $80 million.
The movie looks promising, with a fresh new cast, many of which are known Hollywood celebrities, ready to save humanity from the Deviants. Despite all of that, the movie has the worst rating on Rotten Tomatoes ever given to a Marvel film, with only 56%. It is difficult to make an accurate forecast for the first weekend of November. October has been the best month for cinemas since early 2020. However, November is usually slow as most moviegoers save their tickets for Christmas blockbusters.
Be sure to check out Eternals tomorrow in theaters!
