Next year’s live-action Cinderella will come to theaters with an extra bonus for Disney animation fans. The creative team behind 2014’s Frozen – which includes directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, producers Peter del Vecho and Aimee Scribner, and songwriters Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez – is putting together a short film called Frozen Fever to follow up on the events in Arendelle.
Frozen quickly turned into a runaway hit for Disney, becoming one of their most financially successful films of all time and remaining one of the top films at U.S. box offices even after it was released on Blu-Ray and DVD. It was the first non-Pixar film from Disney to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. The princesses from the film, Anna and Elsa, have been massively popular with fans. The two sisters have already made their debut on ABC’s all-Disney-princess-mash-up Once Upon a Time, alongside old favorites like Snow White and Belle. The film’s Oscar-winning number “Let It Go” is still on the pop culture radar, as it was recently revealed that it, as well as other songs from Frozen, will be featured in an upcoming edition of Sony’s Singstar karaoke video game. Disney is clearly eager to market and promote their most successful new property in years for as long as they can.
Lopez and Anderson-Lopez both expressed an interest in making Frozen 2 in their Oscar acceptance speech for “Let It Go.” While there is still no word of a full-fledged sequel, Frozen Fever could certainly open the door for more stories about Anna and Elsa’s adventures.
