Disney+ Under Even More Fire After The Release Of The ‘Mandalorian & Grogu’ Film Trailer Amongst The Controversial Jimmy Kimmel Cancellation

Star Wars fans aren’t happy after the release of the official trailer of the Mandalorian & Grogu film, but not for the reason you would assume.

Not because the trailer is terrible, but for the fact that the Star Wars spin-off hails from Disney, the company that has come under fire recently after the controversial cancellation of comedian Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night talk show. Fans believe that the release of this trailer is an attempt to “distract from the ongoing drama,” but if this is a distraction attempt, it is definitely falling flat.

Fans of Star Wars have left several comments on the Star Wars YouTube page since the trailer’s release:

If only Disney could be as brave as their characters, I don’t have Disney+ anymore.

One person pointed out the poor distraction as follows:

Disney Execs: ‘Everyone stop talking about Jimmy Kimmel! Look at the shiny new Star Wars movie!’

Someone else commented:

Disney saw everyone cancelling subscriptions and decided to drop a trailer.

Last week, Jimmy Kimmel Live! was postponed “indefinitely” following comments that Kimmel made on the killing of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk, along with mimicking Donald Trump’s response to his death. After the controversial firing, the backlash was instant, with celebrities, including The Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal, audiences, and even politicians criticizing the decision, going so far as to sign an “open letter that condemned the cancellation of Kimmel.” Soon, fans started boycotting the studio and canceling their Disney+ subscriptions, with the company losing a reported $1.5 billion in value as a consequence.

The studio has since decided to put Kimmel back on air, with ABC releasing a statement yesterday that read:

Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country. It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.

But just because ABC decided to return Jimmy Kimmel Live! to air, doesn’t mean its affiliates have to. Sinclair Broadcast Group has not supported the decision to bring Kimmel back, with a release statement that reads, “Beginning Tuesday night, Sinclair will be preempting Jimmy Kimmel Live! across our ABC affiliate stations and replacing it with news programming. Discussions with ABC are ongoing as we evaluate the show’s potential return.”
