With five additional stars added to the film, Taylor Swift’s concert-turned-movie will be streamed on Mickey Mouse’s streaming service. Officially titled Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version), Disney hopes that the song Cardigan and four acoustic songs unseen by filmgoers will be incentive enough to watch one of the biggest theatrical releases for a documentary in 2023, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The news was announced during Disney’s quarter earnings call on Wednesday and plans to be released on March 15. This news also comes during somewhat negative results about the streaming services subscriber count.
According to Variety, Disney+ subscriber count, specifically their Core subscribers, which includes all countries except India, went down by 1.3 million during the last 2023 quarter, with their monthly payment increase occurring during that time.
Even with this news being announced, Mickey Mouse and his team are projecting 5.5 to 6 million additional Core subscribers by the end of the first 2024 quarter.
The goal might be realized if Taylor Swift fans are hungry enough to watch this new version of The Eras Tour. But seeing how the original documentary grossed $261.1 million from a $15 million budget, according to the same THR report, it would not be surprising to see Swifties flock to see new content.
