Disney Rumored To Be Working On Live Action Remake of ‘The Black Cauldron’

Disney has become the subject of recent rumors regarding the production of a live-action remake for its 1985 animated film The Black Cauldron, according to Movieweb.com.

Disney has held a recent track record of reimagining older films from its dense library and releasing them to a modern audience. With their renowned titles such as Aladdin and The Lion King in short supply they are turning to lesser known properties, i.e. The Black Cauldron. The film was neither a critical or a commercial darling at the time of its release, only earning $21 million at the box office. Yet it would later receive a cult following 35 years after its release for its dark tone and imagery, with a remake of some kind being discussed in recent years.

The report of a The Black Cauldron live-action remake came from industry insider Daniel Richtman of Patreon. Richtman’s report lacked details such as a release date and whether or not the project would go straight to a streaming service like Disney+, similar to what the company did last year with its live-action adaptation of The Lady and the Tramp. The report would also elaborate on the remake of Robin Hood and it being in production with Disney+.

Other live-action Disney remakes currently in production include Hercules, The Little Mermaid, Pinocchio, and Cruella.
