With only a week away, more and more clips of Jon Favreau’s The Lion King remake have been surfacing online. Two new clips in particular have been released by Disney, faithfully recreating some of the original film’s small iconic moments.
The first clip deals with Scar and Simba going to the gorge, which inevitably leads to the iconic wilder beast stampede. The clip plays out similarly to the original film except Scar, voiced by Chiwetel Ejiofor, seems more focused on Simba showcasing his “little roar.” The second clip deals with the introduction of Timon and Pumbaa, voiced by Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen respectively. Again, it plays out identically to the original where they find Simba in the desert and take him as their own so he can protect them from other predators.
These clips showcase many of the photorealistic animals expected from this remake, as well as being a standard retelling of the original film. There are still fans who feel critical of this remake, feeling that the decision to not change much and make The Lion King more realistic detracts from the original film’s appeal. However, some are also okay with this idea, applying the old saying “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” as a reason to not change much of the original story. Regardless, the clips provide more of an idea of what this new live-action remake will be like.
The Lion King is set for release on July 19th 2019. Watch the clips below:
