Disney Releases First Trailer for Disney+ Exclusive Film ‘Flora & Ulysses’

Disney Plus is still trying to maintain its family friendly appeal by releasing more movies geared towards younger audiences on the platform. The newest film on the platform’s radar is an upcoming adaptation of a best selling children’s book featuring a literal flying squirrel. The next Disney Plus exclusive feature film, Flora & Ulysses had their first trailer premiered online today for younger audiences everywhere.

Based on the book of the same name by Katie DiCamillo, the film centers around a comic book obsessed girl named Flora (Matilda Lawler), who ends up raising a little squirrel, who is named Ulysses. Little does Flora known that she has her own superhero as Ulysses is far from an ordinary squirrel. As Ulysses actually has super powers and with his owner Flora being in love with superheroes, starts showing him off to many of her fellow friends and acquaintances. Though of course with great power comes great responsibility as Ulysses gets into his own shenanigans being an extraordinary squirrel, and thus Flora ends up going on this crazy journey with him to discover more about what exactly he is.

The film looks to be a standard film kids fare, with humorous antics and a cutesy lead with Ulysses being a fairly expressive CGI squirrel. It being easily accessible on Disney Plus will be perfect for younger audiences looking for a new movie geared towards them. The appeal of superheroes has been very strong with Disney gaining major success with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so another superhero related project more geared towards younger kids seems like an appropriate move for them to do. This mentality is sure to make Flora & Ulysses an enjoyable little romp for audiences who might be a bit too young for the adventures with The Avengers.

Flora & Ulysses is set to premiere on Disney Plus February 19th 2021.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
