After stepping down from his directorial duties for the third Iron Man movie, Jon Favreau might helm one more flick for the House of Mouse with their live-action Jungle Book adaptation. We’ve known about the project for little while now, but Favreau, who is reportedly in talks to direct, is the first name we’ve heard seriously associated with the project’s top job.
Although he passed the torch to Shane Black for Iron Man 3, there seemed to be no love lost between Favreau and Disney (the company responsible for assembling the Avengers) as Favreau was more than happy to reprise his role as Happy Hogan, Tony Stark’s faithful body man. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has since gone on, and Favreau moved on to direct Cowboys and Aliens for Universal and Chef, an independent feature for Open Road Films.
A new Jungle Book adaptation would mark the third major theatrical adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s collection of stories, the first being a full-length animated feature followed by the live-action movie directed by Stephen Sommers in 1994. Writing the script is Justin Marks who was one of the many screenwriters to have a go at 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea for Disney.
