Director Yann Demange Leaves Marvel’s ‘Blade’ Reboot

Marvel’s upcoming Blade film has once again lost their director. This time The Wrap confirmed that Yann Demange (Lovecraft County) left the production “a while ago.” It was “entirely amicable.”

Blade’s original director, Bassam Tariq (Mongul Mowgli), departed from the project in September 2022. Additionally, multiple writers have come and gone. Eric Pearson is currently penning the script, but past writers also included Michael Starrbury (When They See Us), Nic Pizzolatto (True Detective), and Michael Green (Logan).

Mahershala Ali (Moonlight, Green Book) is still set to play the iconic, blood-sucking title character. In past interviews, Ali said that he was “encouraged” by the film’s direction. While there are few details, he reassures the delayed movie is back on track in production. However, there is still a bumpy road ahead if they want it released by Fall 2025.

Since Endgame, audiences have been burnt out from multiple MCU films and TV shows being pumped out this year. Noticing the sentiment, Marvel and their parent company, Disney, decided to take a big break in 2024. The only film released in theatres is Deadpool vs. Wolverine, the only MCU movie to earn an R rating. In the future, Marvel plans to release about two theatrical films a year.
