Peter Farrelly will be directing a true story about the Vietnam War in The Greatest Beer Run Ever. Farrelly has just come out of awards season with multiple Oscars for his film Green Book, which earned $314.7 million at the global box office. Brian Currie, who was involved in writing for Green Book, will also be tasked with writing the script for this film alongside Pete Jones. The project will be carried out in collaboration with Skydance.
The film is being adapted from the book The Greatest Beer Run Ever: A True Story of Friendship Stronger Than War, co-authored by Joanna Molloy and John “Chickie” Donohue, a former U.S. Marine Corps veteran. The project will detail Donohue’s journey in 1967 to reunite and have a beer with his childhood friends who were serving in the Army. His decision to do so came after a challenge he received one night while at a New York City bar to go to Vietnam to meet with friends who were fighting and share messages of support. He boards a cargo ship to Qui Nho’n with a backpack of beer.
