Director Of ‘Verity’ Reveals Some Exciting New Details About The Upcoming Adaptation

Michael Showalter, director of the upcoming thriller Verity, reveals some exciting details about the Colleen Hoover adaptation.

Verity, based on the 2018 thriller of the same name, follows a ghostwriter, Lowen, played by Dakota Johnson, who is hired to write for a prolific author, Verity, played by Anne Hathaway, who reveals devastating secrets about both women along the way. Josh Hartnett also stars as Jeremy, Verity’s husband, with other supporting roles from Michael Abbott Jr., Daniel Echevarria, Asel Swango and Brady Wagner.

While sitting down with ScreenRant’s Tatiana Hullender to promote his new holiday film, Oh. What. Fun., Showalter was asked about his working experience with Hathaway, with whom he had previously collaborated on 2024’s romantic comedy The Idea of You, and said the two share a “really great connection creatively and collaboratively.” Showalter also expressed that the film will be “totally different” from the two previously mentioned ones, stating,

It’s a thriller. It’s scary and suspenseful. It’s quite dark and twisted, but I’m very excited and proud of that movie.

Verity releases in theaters on October 6th, 2026.

Mallery McKay: I am a graduate student, focusing on writing for and about films. I have a passion for films and the news surrounding them, so I always try and keep up to date with the latest news.
