As if being the first Foreign language feature to win Best Picture at the Academy wasn’t enough for Bong Joon Ho’s tour de force, Parasite, the film will also be receiving another blu-ray release. What makes this new release stand out however is that it is from what many considered to be the most prestigious home media company of all time, Criterion. Now Criterion has announced new details regarding the movie’s upcoming blu-ray release.
This new criterion release will include a New 4K digital remaster of the film from Bong Joon Ho and director of photography Hong Kyung Pyo, commentary from Bong and film critic Tony Rayns, and a new black and white version of the film.
Other features to be included on the release are new interviews with production designer Lee Ha Jun and editor Yang Jinmo, the Cannes Film Festival Press conference, storyboard comparison and a new program discussing new Korean Cinema with Bong and Oldboy director Park Chan Wook.
With Criterion being known for handling their blu-ray releases with much care, it’s no surprised they went all out for this upcoming release. It is clear that Bong made a film that was incredibly powerful and resonated with audiences all over the world, and it will now be added to the long-lasting catalog of films at Criterion to be accessed by movie lovers for many years to come.
Details for the blu-ray release were announced with their upcoming slate of releases including Claudine, Henry King’s, The Gunfighter, Jean-Luc Godard’s Pierrot Le Fou, and Stephen Frears’ The Hit. Parasite‘s Criterion Blu-ray is set for release on October 27th, 2020.
