Actor Johnny Depp testified this week to the London High Court during a hearing that accuses his ex-wife, actress Amber Heard, of libel for publishing an article calling him a “wife beater,” detailing Depp’s alcoholism and alleged violence towards her. Per BBC. Depp denies these claims, and instead explained how he was the victim of such domestic abuse, not Heard.
He said the article held “defamatory allegations,” and went on to claim that, in their relationship, “It was almost as if there were rules…and if that routine isn’t met to her standards than there was going to be a problem.” He believes that Heard was only interested in the relationship for the fame, and that she told him that he was a “disappointment” to her.
Depp also claimed that, while in Australia, Heard threw a glass vodka bottle at him, which severely severed his finger. On top of a number of other alleged incidents, Heard herself claims that during this trip she underwent a “three-day ordeal of assaults” by an extremely intoxicated Depp. She also states that, in 2015, Depp slapped and headbutted her. Depp acknowledges this and said that he only tried to restrain her from attacking him.
On top of alleged verbal and physical abuse by Heard, Depp, in one of stranger aspects of the rollercoaster relationship, claims that he was sent a photo of feces in his bed, which he thinks came from Heard or one of her friends. Depp will return to court for his cross-examination.
