In 2019, the worldwide box office success Avengers: Endgame grossed nearly $2.8 billion and served as the final chapter of the Infinity Saga — an umbrella term for the first 23 films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since then, Marvel Studios has continued introducing new heroes and creating new sequels that focus on the MCU’s most iconic characters. The upcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will be one of two back-to-back movies scheduled for 2025 that will close Phase 6 of the Multiverse Saga. It is now known that Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, will helm the new project as well.
As a result of the success of Shang-Chi, which grossed $432 million internationally, Cretton has signed an overall deal with Marvel. Apart from directing a Shang-Chi sequel he is currently developing a live-action series together with Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Community writer-producer Andrew Guest that will feature Wonder Man.
Much is still unknown about The Kang Dynasty. It was revealed by Kevin Feige, though, that the film is expected for release on May 2, 2025 while the sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, will debut on November 7, 2025.
Kang, portrayed by Jonathan Majors, was first introduced in the Disney+ series Loki. Kang, or a different version of him as stated by Majors, will appear again in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania which will be out on February 17, 2023. Quantumania will be the opening film of Phase 5.
