Demi Lovato finds herself on the silver screen once again, as the singer and actress joins the cast of Will Ferrell’s upcoming Netflix comedy entitled Eurovision. The film is loosely inspired by a real-life global singing competition according to Deadline. Lovato will be playing the character of Katiana, revered as one of the greatest and most heavenly singers to emerge from the country of Iceland.
The former Disney singer recently celebrated her 27th birthday, to which Ferrell confirmed her casting via a birthday-centered video on Instagram. The post included the following quote: “Hi everyone. Will Ferrell here on the set of my new movie Eurovision. We want to make a very special announcement about a brand new cast member, and it just happens to be her birthday. I made her this wonderful cake from scratch.”
Eurovision follows a pair of aspiring musical artists- Lars and Sigrit- who encounter a once in a lifetime opportunity to represent the their native Iceland at an international song competition. Ferrell and Rachel McAdams portray Lars and Sigrit, with Dan Stevens and Pierce Brosnan featured in supporting roles.
Ferrell is responsible for the film’s script alongside Andrew Steele, producing the film alongside Jessica Elbaum and Chris Henchy of Gary Sanchez Productions. Adam McKay will serve as executive producer. The film is currently being shot in the U.K. and Iceland.
