Per The Hollywood Reporter, the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman-led Deadpool & Wolverine has surpassed Greta Gerwig’s Barbie to become No. 12 on the highest-grossing domestic box office list. Released in the U.S. on July 26, Deadpool & Wolverine has enjoyed an impressive box office run, earning $679,000 this past weekend as Disney expanded its theater count by 500, bringing the total to 1,500 for its final stretch in theaters.
In total, Deadpool & Wolverine has earned $636.3 million domestically, just ahead of Warner Bros.’ Barbie, which garnered $636.2 million. While the Shawn Levy-directed Deadpool threequel edged out Barbie in domestic earnings, it still trails internationally. Barbie raked in over $1.4 billion globally, making it the 15th highest-grossing film worldwide, while Deadpool & Wolverine stands at $1.336 billion.
Despite its narrower audience as an R-rated film, Deadpool & Wolverine has set a record as the top-grossing R-rated movie of all time. The film also recently claimed the No. 20 spot on the global box office list from Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi. Among Marvel Cinematic Universe films, Deadpool & Wolverine ranks as the seventh-highest-grossing, with a $211 million opening weekend, a record for R-rated films.
Meanwhile, Inside Out 2 remains the highest-grossing film of 2024, with $652.9 million domestically and a worldwide total of $1.694 billion.
