Indian-American actor Karan Soni has been cast to play Pavitr Prabhakar (aka Spider-Man India) in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Well-known for his role as Dopinder from the Deadpool franchise, he will join the illustrious voice cast alongside Oscar Isaac, Greta Lee, and Daniel Kaluuya.
First announced by One Take News, Soni is the latest to join the cast and is set to play a significant role in the film as Pavitr’s cinematic debut. According to the comics, Pavitr was a typical teen who grew up in Mumbai until he gained spider-like powers from an old yogi to help fight crime. His story is meant to be a 100% mirror of Peter Parker’s and has become popular amongst comic book readers since 2005.

Soni’s career had sky-rocketed thanks to his work in Deadpool, branching out to various stories such as The People We Hate at the Wedding, The Four Samosas, and the series Miracle Workers. With the production of Deadpool 3 coming up in the spring, it is currently unknown if Soni will be available to reprise his role.
Across the Spider-Verse will follow Miles Morales as he travels the multiverse alongside other Spider-People to help protect it. The film is set for release on June 2, 2023, followed by its sequel on March 29. 2023.
