DC has a ton of promising new films on the horizon, and it looks like one of the newer upcoming movies, Deathstroke, may just have a director: Gareth Evans (The Raid: Redemption), who is currently still in the negotiation process for the job. Evans’ other in-progress projects include Blister and The Raid 3.
Deathstroke will focus on the DC characters of the same name. Other media incarnations of Deathstroke have appeared in the television show Arrow (played there by Manu Bennett) and the original animated Cartoon Network TV series Teen Titans, where he specifically antagonized and tried recruit Robin of Batman fame, while also fighting the other Titans. In both of these shows, he is first referred to as Slade Wilson.
As of now, it looks like actor Joe Manganiello (One Tree Hill) will be tackling the role of Deathstroke, who originally was intended to serve as the bad guy in the original script for the upcoming Batman film, starring and helmed by Ben Affleck.
However, during the course of many rewrites and a change in directors, it looks like Slade has been jettisoned from the film, which leaves him plenty of opportunities to act in his own movie. It makes sense, as DC has also focused on a flick with a cast full of anti-heroes and villains in Suicide Squad, which received decent pop culture acceptance. Lately, Deathstroke has been straddling that characterization as well, which audiences seem to enjoy.
As of now, there is no release date.
