At the MCM Comic Con in London, actor David Tennant, known for his roles in Doctor Who and Good Omens, was present at the event. During his hour-long panel, he revealed that he had hoped to portray the leader of the Fantastic Four, Reed Richards—also known as Mr. Fantastic—in the upcoming Marvel film The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Ultimately, the lead role went to The Last of Us star Pedro Pascal. Tennant acknowledged Pascal as a wonderful actor and jokingly referred to him as “Mr. Fantastic in every sense of the word.” It was clear Tennant held great admiration for Pascal.

Fantastic Four: First Steps is set to release on July 25, 2025. The film features a vintage yet futuristic 1960s-inspired setting. The star-studded cast includes Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm. The plot follows the team as they confront multiple threats and strive to protect their world from two of their iconic enemies: Galactus, played by Ralph Ineson, and a female Silver Surfer portrayed by Julia Garner.

Although Tennant did not land the role of Mr. Fantastic, he remains active in the entertainment industry. He is set to star in The Thursday Murder Club alongside Helen Mirren and Ben Kingsley, and will appear in season 2 of Hulu’s hit show Rivals. Most excitingly, he is slated to reprise his role as Crowley in the finale of Good Omens. Interestingly, the third season will be the last of the series and will consist of a single 90-minute episode.

Fortunately, in the Marvel universe, doors rarely close for good. Tennant may still appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe—possibly as an alternate version of Reed Richards.
