The upcoming film adaptation of Dead by Daylight has secured its writers. The script is now slated to be written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Alexandre Aja.
Since hitting the scene in 2016, Dead by Daylight has become one of the most popular multiplayer games in recent years. The game itself sees players control four survivors, while another player operates a killer who has to thwart the attempts of the survivors to escape. While already a popular horror game in and of itself, their stardom was boosted after they began collaborating with major horror IPs, such as Halloween, Evil Dead, Hellraiser, and even Five Nights at Freddy’s.
The Hollywood Reporter noted that, although both selected writers have plenty of horror experience between them, neither have crossed paths on a project before. Aja has directed multiple movies before, such as 2019’s Crawl and 2010’s Piranha 3D, but has also lent himself to writing screenplays in the past. Some of his credits include co-writing The Hills Have Eyes, High Tension, and Maniac.
Johnson-McGoldrick, as The Hollywood Reporter also noted, has worked directly with Dead By Daylight producer James Wan. He’s written several Conjuring films, including Wan’s own Conjuring 2, and even worked with him on both Aquaman as well as its sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
