David Leitch, the director of action films like The Fall Guy, Bullet Train, and Atomic Blonde, is in talks to helm a big-budget movie adaptation of Gears of War, one of the most popular video game franchises on the Xbox platform.

Jon Spahits, who co-wrote the recent Dune film adaptations with Denis Villeneuve, is set to write the script of this Gears of War movie. Leitch and his wife/producing partner, Kelly McCormick, will produce the film through their production company, 87North.

Netflix has been working on a Gears of War movie for quite a few years, beginning in November 2022 when the streaming giant picked up the rights to the video game franchise. Netflix is said to have hopes of first adapting the franchise through this feature film and then following it up with an adult animated series.

No other news about this Gears of War movie, such as casting or when production will begin, has been announced at this time. However, it may be some time before this Gears of War movie begins production, as David Leitch is currently in Pre-Production on the upcoming heist thriller for Amazon MGM Studios, How to Rob a Bank, which is set to star Nicholas Hoult and Anna Sawai.
