It’s been reported (courtesy of an exclusive from The Wrap) that the brass at 20th Century Fox is considering David Harbour (Stranger Things) for the role of Cable in the upcoming sequel to Deadpool. Reportedly, Harbour was recently spotted conducting screen tests for the film.
For those of you that don’t know, Cable is the time traveling progeny of the X-Men’s Cyclops and Jean Grey. He’s generally depicted looking like Schwarzenegger at his peak, only with white hair, a facial scar, and a bionic left arm. From what we’ve seen of Harbour’s physique as Jim Hopper in Stranger Things, it’s difficult for us to imagine him in this role. However, his capabilities as an actor aren’t subject to doubt. If he’s willing to put in the work at the gym, he would almost certainly pull off a convincing performance as the super-soldier from the future. Harbour recently picked up a Screen Actors Guild award as a member of the ensemble cast of Netflix’s cult hit Stranger Things, and famously delivered a call to arms speech.
David Leitch, John Wick’s co-director, is set to direct while the writers of the first film, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, are already working on the screenplay. Obviously Ryan Reynolds will be reprising his role as the titular character. As of now there is no release date scheduled.
We will stay tuned.
