David Harbour Announces ‘Hellboy’ Trailer to Premiere Thursday

Despite the majority of comic book movies in 2019 being from Marvel and DC, their characters aren’t the only ones going from page to screen. In April of 2019, a reboot of Hellboy will premiere in an ever-growing sea of comic book films. Hellboy returns to the big screen following two fairly well-received movies in the mid-2000’s directed by Guillermo Del Toro. Fans of the comic book series and movies might have been skeptical at the idea of different director and actor being a part of a series that was made so distinctive by Del Toro and actor Ron Perlman; however, with a more adult tone and hard R-rating set in mind for this reboot, fans are no doubt curious to see what director Neil Marshall is cooking up.

Stranger Things actor David Harbour replaces Rob Perlman in the title role, and the actor announced on Instagram that the first trailer for the new Hellboy will premiere on Thursday, December 20. The post consists of motion poster depicting Hellboy raising his fist as lightning appears against a dark red sky, revealing a demonic face. In the caption of the post, Harbour writes, “Guess Who’s Back, No, not 50% of the Avengers, hell, that’s practically May,” as Avengers: Endgame premieres at the very end of April.

It is important to consider that Hellboy premieres not only in the same month as Endgame, but also the same month as DC’s Shazam!so there is a decent amount of competition for the horned hero. However, there is still a decent amount of hype for the new Hellboy since it skews toward the horror crowd, being a much darker and more adult comic book movie compared to the DC and Marvel competition.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
