Another familiar face is joining the cast of Neighbors 2, the follow-up to 2014’s top-grossing comedy Neighbors. Dave Franco (Now You See Me 2) has signed on to rejoin his frat brother Zac Efron in the sequel.Efron (recently announced as joining Dwayne Johnson for the big-screen Baywatch) and Franco will reprise their roles as former frat buddies Teddy and Pete, whose wild antics in the first film drove the mild-mannered couple next door so insane they declared all-out war on the fraternity. Seth Rogen (Steve Jobs) and Rose Byrne (X-Men: Apocalypse) are on board once again as the Radners.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the film has a working subtitle Sorority Rising. Most reports have a sorority replacing the frat as the new thorn in the Radner’s sides. Chloe Grace Moritz (Clouds of Sils Maria), Kiersey Clemons and Beanie Feldstein, all recent additions to the cast, are expected to appear as sorority members whose outrageous behavior easily outstrips anything the Delta Psi Beta boys accomplished in the first film.
Nicholas Stoller returns to helm the sequel, based on a script he developed with Rogen, Andrew Jay Cohen, Brendan O’Brien and Evan Goldberg.
We’ll see if the sequel manages to equal the success of the original, which grossed $269 million worldwide. A May 2016 release date is planned.
