Darren Aronofsky has yet to lift the curtain on his next film, Caught Stealing. Before that can debut, he may have already lined up the project he’s going to focus on after that, possibly teaming him up with Dwayne Johnson.
Coming from A24, Breakthrough follows a young man with a huge drive who’s taken under the wing of a trainer. What he doesn’t know is that his new trainer has another talent that he keeps hidden; the ability to manipulate people to achieve his own goals.
As stated, Aronofsky’s main focus is currently on Caught Stealing, a blend of crime and comedy that sees a burnt out Austin Butler have to adapt to a criminal underworld when he gets in over his head.
Before that, Aronofsky’s recent film, The Whale, released to critical acclaim and several Academy Award nominations, including a win for Brendan Fraser for Best Leading Actor. He’s also directed Black Swan, Requiem For A Dream, and The Wrestler.
As Hollywood Reporter notes, this is the second time that Johnson has worked with A24. The wrestler turned actor is headlining one of their releases later this year, The Smashing Machine, a biopic that sees Johnson play out the life of MMA fighter Mark Kerr on the big screen.
