According to an exclusive story by Deadline, Dark Sky Films has recently acquired the distribution rights to a pandemic thriller film, Before the Fire.
Before the Fire is set to premiere at Cannes Marché next month virtually since due to the coronavirus and social distancing precautions, Cannes cannot happen in person this year.
The thriller is directed by a female duo Charlie Buhler and Jenna Lyng Adams (The Kominsky Method). In addition to co-directing, Lyng Adams also wrote the script for the film.
“We fought to make this movie because we felt that there was a very specific expectation about the types of stories women were able to tell. Jenna and I both love action and sci-fi, so we wanted to make a female protagonist that we women could really rally behind,” Buhler told Deadline.
The film follows a young up and coming Hollywood actress who is forced to move back to her small hometown in South Dakota due to an intense influenza virus outbreak. When she returns, she is forced to face secrets and lies she tried for years to bury. Her hometown brings her more danger than she could have ever predicted.
As of now, it is unclear when the film will be released to a general audience.
