Sources tell Variety that Danny Boyle is high on MGM’s wish list for the director of the next Bond film. Though no formal offer has been made, MGM has been interested in the possibility of Boyle helming a Bond film since 2012’s Skyfall earned over $1 billion worldwide.
For his part, Boyle seemed disinterested in the franchise in the recent past. In an interview with Collider in 2013, Boyle mused, “They’re not really for me. The budgets are too big. I’m better working at a lower level of money really because I like that discipline of not having enough money to pull off whatever it is you want to pull off. So I wouldn’t be the best person to do those.” Granted, much can change in five years.
Bond 25 marks the return of Daniel Craig as the fictional British Secret Service agent created in 1953 by writer Ian Fleming. Rumor has it that Craig may be paid anywhere from $75 to $150 million for returning to the role (presumably for the last time), so depending on the film’s budget we may just see close-ups of Bond squinting for 2 hours.
Bond 25 is scheduled to release on November 8, 2019.
