The Spider-Verse spinoff feature about Spider-Punk, a character introduced in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, has given a promising update on its development. Daniel Kaluuya, the voice behind the character and co-writer of the film, along with Ajon Singh, spoke with Deadline at the Red Sea Film Festival. While the feature was first announced four months ago, Kaluuya shared that he and Singh are in “finishing stages” of the original draft for the feature, explaining, “We’re in our process.” When asked about plot details or whether the film would feature other Spider-Verse characters, Kaluuya flashed a grin and said, “TBD.” Kaluuya revealed that his inspiration for this writing process comes, well, from the Spider-Verse.
Those Spider-Verse films, they speak to me. I was so inspired by them. I think the filmmakers and the animators are some of the best storytellers in the game. So, I want to put myself in environments where I can grow and learn what they know…They also tap into a joy of cinema and storytelling and animation…that’s something I’m aspiring for.
Spider-Punk will be seen next in the upcoming widely anticipated third franchise installment, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which is set to release in theaters on June 18th, 2027, after several delays.
