Damien Chazelle is gearing up to cast some megastars in his next theatrical outing. The director of Whiplash, La La Land, First Man, and most recently Babylon has begun negotiations for his next feature-length film, with Daniel Craig and Cillian Murphy in talks to star.
Daniel Craig is coming off his performance in Luca Guadagnino’s Queer, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe. His days as James Bond may be over, but he is still all over the film world. Later this year, he will return as the detective Benoit Blanc in Rian Johnson’s Wake Up Dead Man, the third film in a trilogy of mysteries after Knives Out and Glass Onion. Cillian Murphy is coming off his Oscar win as J. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. He also starred in the period drama Small Things Like These last year. He also has some projects lined up, including reprising his role as Thomas Shelby for the Peaky Blinders film, The Immortal Man.
Details are sparse on Chazelle’s mystery film, but insiders are saying it may be a prison drama. Even with that information, it’s hard to say exactly how this next film will feel, especially considering that Chazelle loves jumping genres and styles between films. Damien Chazelle is a special director for many people, so hopefully, we will receive more news on the film soon.
