Nightcrawler writer-director Dan Gilroy has signed on to adapt the screenplay for Antoine Fuqua’s next thriller Storming Las Vegas, according to an exclusive from The Wrap. The story will follow Jose Vigoa, an impoverished ex-Soviet commando who turns to Las Vegas for a new life of wealth and adventure, and comes from the far less elegantly titled book Storming Las Vegas: How a Cuban-Born, Soviet-Trained Commando Took Down the Strip to the Tune of Five World-Class Hotels, Three Armored Cars, and Millions of Dollars.
Fuqua, known for such films as Shooter, The Equalizer, Brooklyn’s Finest, and the Oscar-winning Training Day, has a penchant for gritty storytelling. Seeing as this will be Gilroy’s follow-up script to this year’s dark thriller Nightcrawler, his and Fuqua’s collaboration seems ideal– especially as they tackle what seems to be their niche: protagonists with dark underpinnings. As the project remains in development, Fuqua will be releasing his boxing film Southpaw with a cast led by Gilroy’s recent star Jake Gyllenhaal.
