Star Wars star Daisy Ridley is currently in talks to take on the lead role in STX Entertainment‘s upcoming psychological crime thriller The Ice Beneath Her.
In recent months, the feature project had been caught in a bidding war between major studios, with STX financing and obtaining world rights. Andrew Lazar (American Sniper) is set to produce and Ready Or Not filmmaking trio Radio Silence, composed of of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett and Chad Villella, are attached to direct and produce.
The Ice Beneath Her is based on the bestselling 2015 novel by Swedish author Camilla Grebe about a young woman found beheaded in a business tycoon’s marble-lined hallway. With its unreliable narrator, the story revolves around a detective and psychological profiler who work together to solve the case, which turns out to resemble an earlier unsolved killing and quickly develops into a race against time. The novel is described to be similar in tone and genre to Gone Girl and The Girl On The Train.
Caitlin Parrish, writer of Berlanti Productions’ Supergirl and The Red Line, has adapted the book for the big screen. After the announcement of Ridley potentially joining the cast, additional casting discussions are currently underway. As one of the most highly demanded British actress today, Ridley is currently in post-production on big-budget picture Chaos Walking alongside Tom Holland, which is due to be released early next year.
Amongst the other films Lazar is currently working on include the action feature Waldo starring Mel Gibson and the Warner Bros’ drama Clouds. Radio Silence is also attached to the Scream reboot and are most notable for their work on the cult horror film V/H/S.
