Cynthia Erivo, at only 38, is one of the youngest EGOT winners in history. She was nominated for best actress in this year’s Oscars for her popular performance as Elphaba in the movie Wicked. This marks a milestone for the young actress in her career.
According to The Hollywood Reporter Cynthia’s role in The Color Purple, which she won a Tony for, has widespread appeal. She then went on to earn a Grammy and a Daytime Emmy for the same role making her one award away from EGOT status.
The Wicked nomination, if it wins, will make Erivo part of the “elite group” of people who have accomplished this milestone already.
Her role in Wicked has high hopes of winning due to all the work and technical work that went into her character. The film has also been praised while also giving it a strong foot forward to win the award due to the visuals, musicality, and performance by Erivo, her costar Ariana Grande-Butera, and the other actors.
If Erivo wins the Oscar this year she will surprise Robert Lopez the youngest to win the EGOT as he was 39. Still, Erivo’s contributions to theater, music, and film will inspire and amaze audiences and show she is a talented actress for this generation.
