In the build up to its debut, Wicked: For Good has started its string of worldwide premiere events. With many of the cast and crew turning out for the festivities, one of the main leads in particular had an unfortunate encounter on the red carpet.
Wicked: For Good follows last year’s Wicked, which showed audiences the beginnings of Glinda and Elphaba long before the events of Wizard Of Oz. As the two of them begin to grow together, they’re also forced apart by the citizens of Oz, attempting to find a savior in Glinda and a villain in Elphaba.
Ariana Grande, best known for her musical career, is responsible for playing Glinda. Being one of the two main leads, alongside Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Grande has been making an appearance at several of the international debuts in the build up to the wide release of Wicked: For Good. Among these events included one in Singapore, which turned out to take a disastrous and unfortunate turn for Grande.
After making her entrance, Grande was charged at by a fan who had managed to climb over the barricade, attempting to get close to her. Immediately, Erivo wastes no time jumping into action, separating the two moments before security steps in. Hollywood Reporter, upon their coverage, posted the video from multiple different angles.
For those that followed the press circuits of both Wicked films, Erivo jumping to Grande’s defense doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Despite the rivalry their two characters end up having, the two have become quite close during filming, evident especially in a scenario such as this. After security took the offending visitor away, Erivo stayed with Grande to offer support.
Wicked: For Good hits theaters November 21st.
