When it comes to iconic film directors, none have ever made films as surreal and intriguing as David Lynch. The famous director has been known for various projects including Eraserhead, Mulholland Drive and the Cult Classic Television Series, Twin Peaks. With such a high profile career and a few Oscar nominations, some would expect Lynch to get more recognition than he already has. Thankfully, the Academy will be awarding him for all of his great talent he has put on screen over the years.
The Academy of Motion Picture Art and Science Board of Governors announced some of the winners of the 11th Annual Governor Awards. Along a few other major talents such as Geena Davis and Lina Wertmuller, Lynch has been given an honorary award from the Board of Governors. This is due to many of the critically acclaimed films he has created over the years, along with being nominated for various Oscars in the past, including Best Screenplay for The Elephant Man and Best Director for Mulholland Drive and Blue Velvet. Lynch’s chances of getting an award was deemed more likely due to some connections in the Board of Governors, most notably longtime collaborator Laura Dern being a part of the Academy Governors. Nevertheless, it is still important for Lynch to get recognized for his remarkable talent, creating so many outlandish projects that are unlike anything ever seen before. We can only hope Lynch’s talent will be recognized even further as his portfolio continues to expand.
