‘Croods 2’ Does Decently For Where the US is Ahead of This Odd Thanksgiving Weekend

If anyone told Universal Studios in January that sequel to their animated film starring Ryan Reynolds, Emma Stone, and Nicolas Cage, that made half a billion dollars would make $4.6 million during Thanksgiving Week and that would actually be a solid box office revenue, one can be assured that they would laugh at that person’s face for hours and then kindly ask them to leave, but in the odd year that the United States and the world has lived through, it’s not all that surprising.

The Domestic box office has been all, but dormant the past few months. Nolan couldn’t do much, Neeson action couldn’t do much, and while The Croods are in a similar place, it was a solid box office domestic return.

The Croods: A New Age saw an uptick in the domestic box office, after the US had to shutdown many theaters across the country. The second film in the franchise is one of the only big studio releases in the United States. While Empty Man and Honest Thief saw and currently see some sort of theatrical run, those films were never destined for box office glory.

Films like Black Widow and No Time to Die did not want to risk the COVID domestic box office and will, hopefully, be released later in 2021. But until then it is refreshing to see a new release with some fun songs by Tenacious D. The Croods: A New Age is now out in theaters, which are under strict COVID protocols across the country.
