‘Crime 101’: Netflix And Amazon Fighting For The Package To A New Don Winslow Adaptation

In an exclusive from Deadline, the source states that Amazon and Netflix are “battling ferociously” for the rights to Crime 101, a film based on a novella by Don Winslow. The project is noted to star Chris Hemsworth and Pedro Pascal, with Bart Layton directing.

Deadline states that Amazon “appears to have the edge” against Netflix in this competition. The actors attached to the film seemed to show interest in it before the strikes in the film industry occurred. The source continues that since this rights deal involves a UK-based producer, the strikes may not have as much of a deciding impact.

The production companies tied to the film include Working Title and Story Factory, along with the Creative Artists Agency (CAA).

The film is being compared to Michael Mann’s Heat, a crime film that featured Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. The synopsis for the novella Crime 101, published by HarperCollins, can be read below:

A string of high-level jewel heists up and down the Pacific Coast Highway has gone unsolved for years, mostly because the perpetrator has lived by a strict code he calls “Crime 101.” Police attribute the thefts to the Colombian cartels. But Detective Lou Lubesnick’s gut says it’s the work of just one man. Now the lone-wolf jewel thief is looking for that fabled final last score and Lou breaks all the rules of Crime 101.
