In an interview with Deadline, Eline Van der Velden, creator of the AI-generated actress Tilly Norwood, discussed Norwood and AI in general. Van der Velden discussed how surprised she was to see how big the story of Norwood’s creation became. “When I first envisioned Tilly, I did imagine global stardom for her, that’s what she was built for”, she says in the interview. “For that to come true has been a funny self-fulfilling prophecy.”
Eline Van der Velden also states that, despite the backlash, which includes acting unions like SAG-AFTRA and the UK-based union Equity, as well as individual actors like Betty Gilpin, multiple acting agencies are still eyeing the representation of Tilly Norwood. “There are so many that we’re talking to. It’s not one specific one that’s pulled away or come back into the picture, and we’re involved in a lot of other conversations,” Van Der Velden says. “As much as there was a backlash, we have been absolutely inundated with requests of top talent.” She also claims that Xicoia is “talking to Academy Award-winning writers, directors, and actors who want to explore this space [AI] to see where this can go for them.”
Van der Velden also claims that Norwood isn’t the only AI-generated actor Xicoia will be developing, saying, “The plan is to create 40 very diverse characters to build her whole universe and to play in this AI genre with a whole new cast.” She also claims that Xicoia is hard at work on these future AI-generated actors. “We’ve got a few in the in the making but none are ready for release, she says. “It takes a long time to get something I’m happy with.”
