‘Coyote Vs. Acme’ Star Lana Condor Reveals “Funeral Screening” Was Held For Unreleased Film After Cancellation

A star of Warner Bros. Discovery’s unreleased live-action/animated comedy Coyote vs. Acme recently revealed that she attended a “funeral screening” for the project after its cancellation, Screen Rant reports. The film would have followed the titular Looney Tunes character, Wile E. Coyote, as he files a lawsuit against the Acme Corporation, after all their devices and contraptions backfired on him in his attempts to catch the Road Runner, bonding with his lawyer in the process as they attempt to win the case.

Originally planned for release on July 21, 2023, the completed film was canceled in favor of a $30 million tax write-off for the studio. Soon after, according to cast member Lana Condor, a ‘funeral screening’ was held for the cast and crew.

Initially fearing the final version wasn’t of good quality, the actress ended up having the opposite reaction:

“So when I went to the funeral screening, I thought to myself, ‘Maybe the movie isn’t good and maybe I was wrong.’ Watched the film, and I personally think it was my best work I’ve ever done. And I think it was funny and kind and put a real positive message. That was really, truly devastating for me, for me, and for everyone.”

After Warner Bros. Discovery’s announcement of the cancellation caused controversy, however, the studio offered to sell the film to other companies, such as Amazon MGM Studios, Netflix, and Apple Studios, for reported amount between $75 and $80 million but eventually turned down their bids.

A WBD spokesperson noted in April that the film was still open for acquisition, but there have still been no offers or sales since then, as of this writing.
