The Looney Tunes returned to the big screen this past weekend with The Day The Earth Blew Up, seeing Daffy Duck and Porky Pig saving the world from dastardly aliens. With the release, however, comes some hopeful news for Coyote Vs. Acme.
Coyote Vs. Acme was notoriously shelved by Warner Bros. Discovery late in 2023, following the similar fate of Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt.
As the title suggests, Coyote Vs. Acme focuses on none other than Wile E. Coyote and his usual endeavors to catch that slippery Road Runner. However, when one too many Acme products fail to work as advertised, he decides to take Acme to court instead.
As Hollywood Reporter points out, the reasons stated for canceling Coyote Vs. Acme was a write off for tax reasons. Although some hope shone through once audiences heard about the fate of the movie, on top of hearing about it from lead actor Will Forte and early showings going well, updates stalled for some time.
However, now that The Day The Earth Blew Up has been garnering praise, there’s hope that the film’s parent company, Ketchup Entertainment, could scoop up and finally distribute Coyote Vs. Acme.
Deadline, who first broke the news, announced that Ketchup Entertainment and Warner Bros. Discovery are negotiating for the distribution rights on Coyote Vs. Acme. While they note that the deal hasn’t been finalized as of yet, the final cost is reportedly around the range of $50 million.
